Tiller extension length

There have been a couple of threads that touched on this:

It seems that 48" is the most common length; the range appears to be 46-52 inches (sorry for absence of metric equivalents).

(I don't even know how long my current extension is... It just barely clears the mainsheet when I transfer it from one side to the other with the tiller on the center-line).

Mine is just over 48" long I was going to cut a few inches off it. However from your post it seems normal so I will persevere with it.
