Hi i have an old laser 26565. Would anyone know how old or what year it was made in?

Thanks

Re: Laser

A long long time ago. There should be a number stamped into the rear of the transom. Whats that?

Re: Laser

It was probably built in 1975.

If it is an Australian hull it will only have the sail number stamped on the transom, usually just above the bottom pintle. The Australian boats didn't have any other manufacturing codes stamped on them.

So the first laser was in 1971, yea? I am surprised that between 1971 and 1975 they made 26,000 boats...

I have Laser 1769, and 27773 (PFS114027773).... which I understand to be a 1973 model as well... I guess I'm confused by the older laser numbers as they dont seem to be as well documented as the more recent numbers.

Yes, they certainly grew very quickly.

According to Dick Tillman's book "Laser Sailing for Beginners and Experts" Laser #10,000 was made in October 1973 and Laser #20,000 in September 1974.

Laser #100,000 was made in 1981.

I'm not sure your laser 27773 is in fact that sail number - I would have said it was 11402.

Generally, with older Lasers (pre 99,999) the sail number is the first five numbers after the 3 letter code at the beginning. The last 4 numbers are a manufacturing date. Are you sure that the fourth number from the end is in fact a "7" ?

This thread helps explain the numbering system

Here is a 1973 Laser #7094 as an example

Ah... you are right... the policeman has Gen Y handwriting and uses the "german-style" 7's with the line through the middle and I mistook a 1 for a 7... it looks like PFS114021173...
