    Mast Wear Strips

...and I noticed the other day my boat capsized at the dock with little wind, which makes me wonder if there is excess friction in the mast step due to aluminum being worn into the inner fiberglass sides of the mast step.

    Mast Wear Strips

I have noticed aluminum wearing off the mast and being ground into the fiberglass of the mast step. I do not use any of those mast wear tape strips.

    mast cap rivets

Thanks everyone. I fixed it last night. I bought the aluminum pop rivets (3/16" I guess) or whatever just fit into the hole. Then I used a small pop rivet gun, about 1 foot long, and that worked just fine. I was talking about the bottom end cap on the top mast section, which is supposed to be...

    mast cap rivets

OK thank you both. However, the hole is like 1/6" in diameter (standard hole which is how the mast came to me new), so it looks like a pop rivet is going to be pretty big and need a big tool. Are you saying the type of rivet you simply hit with a hammer (hammer rivet?). If I use that I'm afraid...

    mast cap rivets

Hello, The plasic cap from my upper mast section is coming off. I need to re-rivet that on, or screw it on. It was formerly riveted. What type of rivets do I need to buy? Pop rivets, hammer drive rivets? I'd rather use a self tapping stainless steel screw but I'm afraid the clearance is not...

    Waxing Hull

    Water in hull

Even though the seal between the hull and deck may look good, it might still leak. I had this problem with a new boat. You just turn boat over on its back, apply some pressure via the drain plug (a reverse vacuum but hold it away from the drain plug about 3 inches) soap up the entire hull/deck...

    chipped daggerboard

Thanks Torrid. Yes, I thought about marine tex also. I just wonder if it will stick to the board ok. I thought I might screw in a couple of tiny wood screws to give it something to grip onto. Thanks for you help! Thanks, Jimk

    chipped daggerboard

Can anyone tell me how best to repair my chipped daggerboard? The bottom trailing corner (about 1/2") triangular piece broke off when I dropped my daggerboard. I have the piece that broke. I doubt glueing it will do any good. Should I try marine tex? Just sand it smooth? Gelcoat it? Forget about...
