Ya, that was me. I used the wooden launch ramps after that. Much safer.
Don't wait until spring to join in. Come to our Laserpallooza at Guelph on Oct. 1st
PS Guelph Lake is ideally suited for spectators. Our club is on a long point and we race right across the front off the point. We...
I was at that regatta and yes the Laser course was way out there but it was a good thing. It was brutally shifty and way worse near shore. The back chop near the sea walls was downright nasty.
I was the gray-bearded old fart in the patched up old grey hull.:D
Here's a shameless plug for our one day friendly at Guelph Lake.
Laserpallooza - Sunday October 1st - Guelph Lake, Ontario

Excellent! You won't be disappointed.
It's quite a bit smaller than your mighty Lake Bellwood but the level of racing is pretty high. Lot's of short races (twenty minutes each). We've done more than ten in a day. Email me at [email protected] and I will give you the gate combo.

P.S...
Come check out Guelph Lake. We regularly get 6-8 Lasers on the line for our Tuesday Night club races. 6:30 start. We are having a one day regatta on Sunday Oct. 1. You're welcome to join us.

This irks me as well.
I asked the same question a while back and the short answer is no. The Laser is a great boat but this rule is stupid. The price of the fittings is outrageous.
At this moment my boat is illegal. It will stay that way untill I win the lottery or aquire the precious...
Bummer. Try and find the thing that's going clunk. It should be easy to tell from there.
Too bad you aren't closer. You could just bring it down to my shop (I've got 5 Lasers in there now) and could have it ready for you to partake in our Flat Water Freeze-Out Laser Regatta on April 29. Yes...
I've checked out the D3 schedule and contacted a few sailors in the area and it looks like we are going to try for a one day Ice Breaker type affair on April 29. Nothing fancy; as our humble lake is small and motorboat-free, we just do lot's of races (ten in one day has been done before) and...
I'm thinking of doing a Laser regatta at our club in Guelph. Anyone interested? If so: when should it be? April, May or June. I was thinking the first weekend in May. We'd call it the "Guelph Lake Freeze-Out" or something. Does this conflict with any other regattas in the area?
And if not...
Set up a really short (I mean tiny) course and run continuous starts and races. The course must be doable in less than five minutes so that they are there for the next start. I use a small offset course. I sit in the coach boat (mid leg as the committee boat) and do the starts. With a megaphone...
I've got chrondomalatia patella, which is a fancy medical term for bad knees. I use neoprene braces in heavy air. Also, like Merrily, I find that keeping in shape and good technique are imperative. My knees still ache the next day but then again everything aches at this stage of my life. For me...
