This is an easy choice...
Go to a regatta where you'll be treated like a second-class citizen for sailing a Laser, or go to a regatta focused exclusively on Lasers by a club that is absolutely one of THE BEST at hosting a dinghy regatta?
The decision makes itself.

Gee, we had great conditions Saturday at the D8 championship at Sayville YC. OK, so we had the backdoor cold front mess up Sunday, it was still a fun event.
Good on ya for trying to put something together, but how about joining the traveling show during the summer months? Save the home fleets...
Ignoring anything less than 6kts, and talking about running...
Vang should be off. "Off" is your max ease. This should be set by a knot or similar stopper on the vang (loop handle, stopper ball, etc). There might be some discussion of how to find that max ease point, but generally, with a...
I suspect that's a top mark rounding and Doug is just starting his bear-away (doubt they used offsets at Worlds, and it's too tight for a top reach). He's already eased his c'ham and outhaul for the next leg, probably a run. No obvious whitecaps, but the boats look powered up, so that's not a...
There are a number of factors for the low turnout.
1) Worlds start in Australia in a couple of days.
2) Masters Worlds start in Australia in a couple of weeks.
3) Miami OCR is an expensive event (full week off work, expensive lodging/food)
4) Due to the lack of top international...
Contact Mattia D'Errico at Lakewood YC for some local knowledge.
Before you even hit the water, track down Hayden Cowie. Hayden is a fantastic trainer who's been working specifically with dinghy sailors. Get hooked up with him to get yourself in serious Laser sailing shape!
Absolutely a good idea. In fact, you might find that it helps you're driving more the telltales.
Strongly recommend the C-Vane (and not just because I'm friends with the owner). It really is the best one on the market.
Some folks prefer the masthead "flag", but I don't. Kinda hard on...
First, at 85kg ,you should be able to keep the boat flat except for the big gusts.
Thoughts...
1) Keep the boat flat. It will help "track" through the waves and you'll feel like you're being "pulled" to weather. This isn't superflat, but aim for that, and you'll feel it.
2) Keep an...
BZZZ line gets my vote. The Rooster will knot more as it ages, and they won't come out. The BZZZ will "knot" from the start, but they literally just shake out of it. The BZZZ is also a bit softer and feels "lighter".
Never had a problem with my S.E.A. clewstrap. It does help to "wiggle" it down to make sure the velcro "grabs". Had it out in 20+ gusts the last two weekends.
I'm planning to attend the NE Masters in Newport, RI this weekend, but motel room prices are out-of-sight. Anyone else planning to attend but without housing for Saturday night and wanting to split a room, please let me know!
Woah!!! Calm down!
The carbon uppers are part of an evaluation for RADIAL ONLY that the class and the builders have been conducting for several years. Please refer to Ned Jones's column in The Laser Sailor for the last official word.

Go get an SEA velcro strap, whip a small block to the clew of the sail, and run the outhaul primary through the boom fairlead, the small block on the clew, and then make it off to the boom fairlead with an Aussie bowline.
Good to go - simple, quick efficient, secure. If you're concerned...
Re: Rudder Tie Down/Lose Tiller
1) Make sure your tiller fits the rudder head. I have to shim mine with a couple layers of duct tape.
2) If using Spec12 (Dyneema), there is some creep in the line. I don't find this to be a problem on a given day, but sometimes over the course of a...
Sounds like the originator of this thread made the "dumb call" by not thinking ahead.
Everyone at Hyannis was well aware of the US Nationals deadline. Everyone at the events I attended the last 5 weeks has been reminding each other to register early.
Unusual? Yes (here in NA, anyway)...
I got an email from Peter up at Hyannis as a registrant. It talked about how great the restaurant is at the club, and making reservations in advance, and told me that I would be able to BUY a wonderful breakfast on site.
A look at the NOR shows that we get dinner on a single night of this...
Aigle lace-ups are indeed the best I've tried. Much better than my Gill neoprenes. And you don't need to buy a new pair every year.
SEA makes a nice zip neoprene - not sure there's a difference vs Gill/Ronstan zip neoprenes, but when I bought them, they were cheaper.
